Dr. Steven Loss
Dr. Steven Loss has spent most of his life as a professional singer and music teacher. His career began in opera, singing leading roles with Central City Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Springfield Opera, Nevada Opera Theater, and Opera Las Vegas. As a classical tenor he has also sung solos in large choral works with symphony orchestras. He sang several roles in the musicals CATS and Tanz der Vampir in Germany, which were sung in German. He created the role of D’Annunzio in the world premiere of the opera Duse and D’Annunzio in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a winner at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Midwest District.
Steven’s creative projects include the founding of the Desert Wranglers, a cowboy trio in which he sang and played guitar. With his wife and children, he wrote a children’s musical The Adventures of Bone-Dog and Whity, which they performed in churches and libraries in the Las Vegas Valley.Â
Steven has three degrees in music, including a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the UMKC Conservatory of Music. He has taught in colleges, universities, high schools and music academies in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. Currently he is a professor at CSN in Las Vegas. He played guitar and sang Italian love songs at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. He is now currently a gondolier at the Venetian.
Steven teaches voice, guitar, piano, and ukulele. His diverse performance background translates into the ability to teach various musical styles and genres. He considers himself an encouraging guide for his students along their journey to build their musical skills and grow their confidence.
