Michael Nagy

Michael Nagy

Over the years Michael Nagy explored most of the avenues that music has to offer. He worked as a music copyist, performed as a choral singer, appeared on stage as both an actor and musician in musical theater productions, labored behind the scenes as a sound or recording engineer, and lead rock bands making records and performing at classic venues such as The Stone Pony and CBGB’s. Throughout such a variety of creative endeavors, his focus has always been on education and teaching.

Michael received an Associate Degree of the Arts with honors and holds a B.A. in Music from Rutgers University. He began studying saxophone at 9, choral singing at 12, guitar at 14, and has been teaching music for almost three decades in both individual and classroom settings. As an instructor, Michael has taught hundreds of students from ages 5 through 70 to play the guitar, bass, or ukulele. He has helped students learn concepts of music theory as well as songwriting in both modern and classic styles. A fan of music ranging from Beethoven to The Beatles, he enjoys symphonic music, rock from the 50s through today, and anything that inspires someone to play.

In addition to the personal enjoyment it brought, music provided Michael with a sense of discipline, focus, and patience. His goal has always been to pass those lessons on to others as he believes many of them are as valuable to a professional performer as they are to a hobbyist.
